Antique Early Victorian period Rare and Unique Ambrotype Photograph in a traditional leather clad case which is velvet lined to the inside lid and gilt card matted and mounted beneath original glaze, featuring the notable personage 'Reverend S.W Hebeck' (as per original period hand written legend to the case lid which is dated circa 1859) the photograph is in generally good condition for age but does show some crackling to the finish, that being said Reverend Hebeck is clear to see, sat in pose, sporting a large beard and wearing black garb with a large white collar and sleeve cuffs.
The Case to the photograph shows age related wear as to be expected with nearly 170 years of life including the lower hinge to the case being loose, the double fitted swing clasps to the mouth of the case however are intact with lug fittings and in good order.
The Case when closed shut measures 14 cm x 11.5 cm x 1.7 cm in dimension.
Makes for an interesting addition to any collection of antique photographic images as well as a fantastic decorators piece, "Instant Ancestor" as they used to say.
